Retail use case
Staffing coverage and customer demand analysis for retail stores
Your schedule says the store was covered. Super Vision shows whether associates were actually on the floor, and at the registers, when shoppers needed them.
Super Vision connects to your existing cameras and builds an hour-by-hour record of demand on the floor versus coverage: when zones got busy, whether registers and service positions were covered, how long lines stayed above target, and which hours repeat across weeks and stores. Every finding comes with a timestamped evidence clip. Pair it with your schedule and POS data to turn "we were understaffed" into specific hours, zones, and fixes.
The problem: schedules describe intent, not coverage
Most retailers can tell you how many labor hours each store scheduled last Saturday. Very few can tell you how many associates were on the sales floor at 1 p.m., which zones were uncovered, or whether the third register was open when the line reached six people.
That gap is where sales leak. Research on store traffic has found that conversion falls as traffic rises when labor does not keep pace, and one study of 41 stores found every store understaffed at peak (see our guide to customer-to-staff ratio for the sources). Breaks, deliveries, replenishment, and online order picking quietly move people off the floor at exactly the wrong times, and none of it shows up in a schedule report.
Questions Super Vision helps answer
- Which hours does each store run short on the floor, even when the schedule looks right?
- When checkout lines exceed target, were all the registers that should be open actually staffed?
- Which zones go uncovered while shoppers are present, and for how long?
- Are breaks, receiving, or stockroom work landing in peak windows?
- Which stores repeat the same coverage gap every week, and which fixed it?
What Super Vision observes, and what needs your data
From your existing cameras
- When zones and the checkout area get busy, by hour
- Whether registers and defined service positions were covered
- When lines formed and how long they stayed above target
- Time a service position was unattended while shoppers were present
- Recurring patterns by daypart, weekday, and store
- A timestamped evidence frame or clip for each finding
Needs your systems alongside
- Completed sales and conversion: from your POS
- Who was scheduled: from your scheduling system
- Why someone was off the floor: from your team
Being explicit about this split is deliberate. A coverage finding is only useful if a manager trusts it, and trust comes from showing the evidence and being honest about what video can and cannot prove.
What a finding looks like
The example below is illustrative, not customer data.
Saturday, 12:52 to 13:41 ยท Front checkout
Line at or above 5 people for 31 of 49 minutes. Register 3 uncovered for 26 of those minutes. Two associates observed in the stockroom area between 12:58 and 13:30, coinciding with a delivery.
Recurring: similar pattern on 3 of the last 4 Saturdays. Evidence: 4 clips attached.
A district manager can review that in under a minute, confirm it on the clips, and make one specific change: move Saturday receiving out of the lunch window.
How it works
- Connect one location. Super Vision connects to your compatible existing camera system with authorized access. You choose which camera views are in scope. No new hardware is required to start.
- Define what "covered" means. We set up the zones and service positions that matter for your format, such as registers, fitting rooms, or a service counter, and your targets for lines and coverage.
- Review findings with evidence. Super Vision organizes observable activity into structured events and reports. Each finding links to the clip behind it.
- Compare and expand. Once the findings are useful at one store, compare patterns across locations so district and regional teams can focus visits where they matter.
Who uses it
- Store managers see which hours and positions slipped yesterday and why.
- District and regional managers compare stores on the same coverage measures and spend visits on the stores with recurring gaps.
- Store operations and labor planning leaders get evidence of where schedules and deployment diverge across the portfolio.
Privacy by design
Super Vision is built around operational observations and anonymous patterns, not identifying individual shoppers. Access is role-based and scoped to the locations each person is responsible for, and findings describe operational activity rather than individual performance scores. Retention, access logging, and regional obligations are reviewed with your team before connection.
Frequently asked questions
Do we need new cameras or sensors?
No new hardware is required to start. Super Vision works with compatible existing camera systems through authorized access. Camera coverage and compatibility are confirmed during onboarding, and some systems need help from your camera vendor or IT team to grant access.
Does Super Vision replace our workforce management or scheduling system?
No. Your scheduling system decides who should work when. Super Vision shows what actually happened on the floor, so you can see where the schedule and reality diverged and feed that back into the next schedule.
Is this used to score individual associates?
No. Findings describe operational activity by zone, position, and hour, such as a register left uncovered during a line. They are not designed for individual performance scoring, and access is scoped by role to the locations a person is responsible for.
Can Super Vision tell us our conversion rate?
Not from video alone. Video can show demand, coverage, and lines, but completed sales come from your POS. When you pair Super Vision's coverage data with POS data, you can see how coverage gaps relate to conversion in your own stores.
How precise are the shopper and staff counts?
Super Vision reports what it can support with evidence, and says so when something cannot be determined, instead of hiding uncertainty behind an exact-looking number. Every finding links to the clip behind it so your team can check it.
